Home again

Well I'm back from vacation.
And I need a vacation from my vacation. Now I don't have any issues with my family. I love them, and I love visiting them, but I never sleep well there. I'm always restless, and I can't release my tension and relax there. It's my parent's house, but not the house I grew up in so it's not my old room where as a I discovered myself sexually and felt comfortable...

I also had the worst travel problems ever (at least that I've had to deal with personally), which amazingly didn't overshadow the trip. On the way out the computers were down in Boston so they had to check people in one flight at a time and record everyone on paper, which went easily enough and I thought nothing about. Getting through security was nice since all the backup was at the ticket counters instead of security. Drank myself silly as I spent 3 hours in Newark before heading to Omaha. All in all not a bad flight out. Coming back on the other hand was a little less fun. Since the computers were down in Boston on the way out, I never "checked in" for my trip, so they refunded/canceled my reservations for my return trip! Oh noes!
After trying to explain to the counter rep that I didn't miss the flights out, but that the computers had been down in Boston that day, and waiting as he got on the phone to the national people or something, he finally got it straightened out. Of course this was 30 minutes that I wasn't using to pass through security. Once it's settled and my bags are checked in, I run (quite literally, and it was a feat with my camera bag in one hand and my coffee in the other) up to security. Except there's a huge line and no way to get through it quickly. I can see the gate I need to use just on the other side and they're boarding!!! AHHH!!!
Work my way through the line and end up at the gate, ask if I made it, and they let me on closing the door behind me. Phew, that was close, it should be smooth sailing from here. Not today.
We got away from the gate and went to de-icing (it was 13 degrees and snowing in Omaha this morning). Wait for a little while, then get cleaned off and cleared for takeoff and boom, we're flying. Off to Newark. Where my 1 hour layover just turned into a 30 minute layover for the de-icing delays. No big deal, I think.
We get to Newark and I run across two terminals (C to A) to get to my flight home. Apparantly I ran faster than my luggage, because even though I made the connection, again just by the skin of my teeth, just to wait 80 minutes on the tarmac in line to take off in the rain. I get to Logan to wait for my luggage and not find it. Now I've got a train to catch that I was barely going to make anyway, without having to wait for paperwork, tracking, or whatever else they were going to make me deal with.
Quickly deal with the paperwork to get them to bring me my bag, run for the T, and thankfully one of my neighbors was in the city working today when he was supposed to have the day off, and I caught a ride back with him since I had missed the commuter rail I wanted and was going to have to wait another hour for the next. Around 1 this morning my luggage arrived, and I unpacked my new coffee grinder and French press so I can use them in the morning! Yay!

But despite the lack of sleep and horrors of airline travel, I've had a good few days, how about you?

Raven,
I hear that. I'm now quite broke, but I give what I can to my family. I don't see them that often and I like for them to be able to use gifts I give them all year round so they won't forget me.

But more importantly, a good night sleep and a nice fresh cup of coffee in the morning and I felt much better. Now I just need to get a haircut...
