Proposal would triple vehicle license fees in California

Anyone who licenses a car or truck in California will see big price increases if new proposals are adopted.

The Los Angeles Times reported that some lawmakers are proposing to triple car and truck license fees to make up for a state budget shortfall expected to be $28 billion during the next year and a half.

The increase for a $25,000 vehicle would be $336. The higher fees would generate an estimated $6 billion a year.

It is not clear whether Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger would support the plan

 Welcome to MY world. The City of Toronto passed a law last year, called the Vehicle Licensing Tax, that dings us $60 each time we renew our plates! They *say* that it's for road maintenance... but I'm betting it goes into the general funds pool, to be used on whatever pet project our mayor and his cronies have in mind.

People DO love to hate cars...
