Inspired again by one of my friends....
An Answer To Your Call.
I read your words and see you weep An Angel floating on an ocean deep I hear you cry and I hear you moan Why should one suffer or be alone? With my ears I listen to your call Will the one you love fight or fall? Alas I know your love is not for me I wonder would I fear a raging sea? And with every moon and every sun Would I fight or fall to be the one? To answer you I would not pretend Because you know I am your friend Just to be given one single chance I’d drown in your love for romance To fight the elements I’d be brave To win your love I’d be your slave Fear not the tide as it ebbs and pull To spurn your love I would be a fool So to the one that you hold so dear The answer should be crystal clear.

Thin Lizzy - Shades Of A Blue Orphanage - lyrics 7.09
When we were he used to go over the back wall into old Dan's scrapyard Into the snooker hall where most us were barred An' into the Roxy and the Stella where film stars starred That's where me and Hopalong an' Roy Rogers got drunk and jarred And we might have been the saviour of the men, the captured captain in the devil's demon den And we might have been the magic politician in some kind of tricky position Like an old, old, old master musician we kept on wishin' We was headed for the number one hit country again
{Chorus} And it's true True blue Irish blue And it's true True blue And sometimes it reminds me of you
There's an old photograph of Dan that I wish you could-a seen Of him and the boys posed, standing in St. Stephen's Green Ya see, they were a part of the great freedom dream But they were caught and detained and are locked inside the frame of the photograph And he might have been the clever con, the good samaritan, the rassclaut man An' he might have been the loaded gun, the charlatan of the tap dancin' fan But like an old pioneer from outer Afghanistan, headed for the number one hit country again
{repeat chorus}
Old Dan in a raincoat hums the very, very, very special notes of a long lost favorite melody It reminds him of a love affair when he was young and did not care And how he parted so soft, so sadden And he might have been the laughing cavaliero, the wise old commanchero Ow, the desparate desparado, the good looking Randolph Valentino, the from Glasgow But like an old, old hunter of the female buffalo, he's headed for the number one hit country again
{repeat chorus} And it's true True blue Irish blue True blue Irish blue And it's true It's so true Ummm, it's true I swear I've said it Swear I've said it I swear I said it I swear it's true And it's true True blue Oh, its Irish blue And it's true...

At an increasing rate life passes us by And one thing for certain we all will die What is it all about? Why are we here? Do I need to know? Or do I really care? Will I be here tomorrow? Or next year? Should I be concerned or show any fear? Questions about life asked times before If you know the answer, can you be sure? Is there a book does anyone keep score? When your out do you come back for more? Is there a fast bowler to take your wicket? Or does someone just issue you a ticket? Are we all doomed to wither and to rust? Before the day when we turn back to dust Why are all these questions in my head? Am I still here? Or am I already dead? I live on my own which makes me think? Who will know? when I no longer wink.

More inspiration from another dear friend [blog joloveslove] from a post [post 1421427]
Out With The Old
Out with the old in with the new Forget the feelings I had for you So easy to spring clean our home Not so our emotions when all alone The sun and longer nights looming With trees and flowers blooming Listen to the cuckoo and the lark Still feel the pain within our heart Sweep the dust with a new broom Letting fresh air into every room If we could spring clean our heart And open our minds to a new start Forget the pain that made us sad Just smile, sing and say, I’m glad!

Another poem inspired by my friend nakedarkangel from a post Scarlet Rose
Dreams
If every dream is a message to us all I will dream forever hoping that you call Seeing you when my eyes are shut tight Dreaming of you such a beautiful sight Thinking if only are dreams come true You touching me and me touching you The thoughts and feelings in my mind Are a sweet reminder of you so kind And when I awake and open my eyes To see you there would be a surprise I guess it is time to go back to my bed Dream my dreams of you in my head

Hi everyone, i saw Neil Diamond last night live on the BBC Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. All i can say is WOW! an amazing performance from a veteran singer. I can't believe that he has been in the music industry 50yrs... how time flies! It's no wonder his new Album Home Before Dark went strait to No1 in the UK charts. Just goes to prove you can't beat experience! I grew up listening to his music & this one is surely a classic! Adie.
Birth name Neil Leslie Diamond Also known as The Diamond Cutter, The Jewish Elvis, The Basher Born January 24, 1941 (1941-01-24) (age 67) Origin New York City, New York, USA Genre(s) Rock, pop, folk, country Occupation(s) Singer-songwriter, musician Instrument(s) Vocals, guitar, piano Years active 1958 ‒ Present Label(s) Bang, Uni, MCA, Columbia

He is famous for having rather large ears, a lot like Adam Payne.
Neil Diamond is one of pop music's most enduring and successful singer-songwriters. As a successful pop music performer, Diamond scored a number of hits worldwide in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Out of all the singer/songwriters i have known... Phil Lynott will to me be always the best. If you ever have time & study all of the lyrics he ever wrote, he was nothing short of a Genius! I remember hearing "Whiskey in the Jar" (i already had the 1st 2 albums "Shades of a blue Orphanage" & "Thin Lizzy" so was already a big fan) on a pirate radio station RNI (radio north sea international) back in the early 70's. At that time i was a part-time DJ with a group of friends, we built our own mobile disco & used to do all the local clubs & venues. I had to order the single as it hadn't been released in the UK at the time, took me i think 6 months to get it! & with 2 other DJ's were playing it regular around the south west before it had been released. When "Lizzy" played at a local racetrack venue (Wincanton) & started playing Whiskey in the Jar the crowd went wild, to strange bewildering looks on the faces of the band! as it was the 1st time they had played it. ( little did they know at that time 3 of us had been playing it around the disco circuit). 2 yrs later (1975) i was fortunate to meet the band ( now re-formed as a 4 piece) (Eric Bell lead guitar departed) in the town i now live (Yeovil) got to go back stage after & had my photo taken in there dressing room. A piece of memorabilia i still treasure to this day!!
Birth name Philip Parris Lynott Born 20 August 1949(1949-08-20) West Bromwich, England, UK Died 4 January 1986 (aged 36) Salisbury, Wiltshire, England, UK Genre(s) Rock, Hard rock, Heavy metal Occupation(s) Musician, vocalist, producer Instrument(s) Bass, keyboards, Guitar, harmonica, Irish Harp, Percussion Associated acts Thin Lizzy, The Greedies, Skid Row, Grand Slam, Gary Moore
Lynott was born in Hallam Hospital (now Sandwell General Hospital) in West Bromwich (then in Staffordshire), England, the of a Afro-Brazillian father, Cecil Parris, and an Irish mother, Philomena (aka Phyllis) Lynott, whose surname he adopted. His father left his mother just three weeks after he was born and returned to his native Brazil.
Phil was initially brought up in Moss Side, Manchester where he became a Manchester United fan. While still at school, he moved to Crumlin, Dublin, to live with his grandmother, Sarah. His parents reportedly kept in touch for a number of years after his birth, but Lynott did not meet his father until the late 1970s.
In the mid 1960s, Lynott began singing in his first band, the Black Eagles. Around this time, he befriended Brian Downey. After a short stint in Brush Shiels' Skid Row with Gary Moore, Phil formed Thin Lizzy around 1970 in Dublin. He was inspired by Jimi Hendrix as an example of how a black man could be successful fronting a hard rock band. Lynott was the main songwriter for Thin Lizzy, as well as the lead singer and bassist. Their first top ten hit was in 1973, with a rock version of the traditional Irish song "Whiskey in the Jar", featuring a cover by Irish artist and friend, Jim Fitzpatrick.
In 1978, he was featured in Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, singing and speaking the role of The Parson. In 1979, under the name of "The Greedies", he recorded a Christmas single, "A Merry Jingle", featuring other members of Thin Lizzy as well as Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols.
In 1980, though Thin Lizzy were still enjoying considerable success, Phil Lynott launched a solo career with the album, Solo in Soho: this was a Top 30 UK album and yielded two hit singles that year, "Dear Miss Lonelyhearts" and "King's Call". The latter was a tribute to Elvis Presley, and featured Mark Knopfler on guitar. His second solo venture, The Phil Lynott Album was a chart flop, despite the presence of the single "Old Town". The song "Yellow Pearl" (1982), was a No.14 hit in the UK and became the theme tune to Top Of The Pops. Also in 1980, he married Caroline Crowther, the of British comedian Leslie Crowther. The couple had two - Sarah, who was born before the marriage, and Cathleen.
In 1984, Thin Lizzy disbanded. Later that year, Lynott recorded a rock'n'roll medley single, "We Are The Boys (Who Make All The Noise)" with Roy Wood, Chas Hodges, and John Coghlan, and collaborated with former bandmate blues/rock guitarist Gary Moore on "Out in the Fields" (a No. 5 UK hit in 1985, his highest-charting single ever) and "Parisienne Walkways" (a UK no. 8 hit). In 1984, he formed a new band, Grand Slam - with Doish Nagle, Laurence Archer, Robbie Brennan, and Mark Stanway. It was rumoured that Lynott would team up with Northern Ireland hit maker Clodagh Rodgers to perform a duet in the 1986 A Song for Europe TV contest with the hope of representing the UK in the subsequent Eurovision Song Contest. His last single, "Nineteen", released a few weeks before his death, was produced by Paul Hardcastle. It bore no relation to the producer's chart-topping single of the same title some months earlier.
Lynott's last years were dogged by drug and alcohol dependency, and on the night of 25 December 1985, he was rushed to hospital suffering from a kidney and liver infection. He died of heart failure and pneumonia on 4 January 1986 at the age of 36. According to album notes, recording of Thin Lizzy's debut album began on 4 January 1971, exactly fifteen years before his death.
A life-size bronze statue of Phil Lynott was unveiled on Harry Street, off Grafton Street, Dublin in 2005. The ceremony was attended by former band members Gary Moore, Brian Robertson, Brian Downey, and Scott Gorham, and by Lynott's mother. The attending Thin Lizzy members paid tribute with a live performance. His grave in St. Fintan's cemetery in Sutton is regularly visited by family, friends, and fans. In November 2005, American actor Gary Dourdan revealed in a radio interview that he has carried out preliminary work with a view to playing Phil Lynott in a film biography.
In 2006, a Thin Lizzy tribute band played at the Nerve Centre, Derry, in memory of Phil Lynott. During the gig, Phil Lynott's elderly mother, Philomena Lynott, came onto the stage and sang vocals on "Dancin' in the Moonlight" in memory of her . The same year, Lynott's mother allowed Micky Waters, bass guitarist of The Answer, to be the first to play her 's bass since his death. The bass was also used in the band's music video for the single "Keep Believin'". In April 2007, The Rocker: A Portrait of Phil Lynott was released on DVD in the UK. Philomena Lynott has said that Gary Dourdan of CSI will be playing Phil in a film adaption of her book My Boy.

Always interested in new music & new artist's, I came across a song by Regina Spektor. Wow! just had to find more & have already almost 100 am still listening to them now. This woman has TALENT! I like Fionna Apple, Joni Mitchell, Bjork & Tori Amos & this woman is like all of them together!! Regina Spektor, ( Russian: Регина Спектор; born February 18, 1980 ) is a Soviet Union-born Jewish Russian American singer-songwriter and pianist. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centered on New York City's East Village. born in Moscow, USSR, to a musical Jewish family. Her father, Ilya Spektor, is a photographer and amateur violinist. Her mother, Bella Spektor, was a music professor in a Russian college of music, and now teaches at a public elementary school in Mount Vernon, New York. Spektor learned how to play piano by practicing on a Petrof that was given to her mother by her grandfather. She was also exposed to the music of rock and roll bands such as The Beatles, Queen, and The Moody Blues by her father, who obtained such recordings in Eastern Europe and traded cassettes with friends in the Soviet Union. The family left the Soviet Union in 1989, when Regina was nine, during the period of Perestroika, when Soviet citizens were permitted to emigrate. Regina had to leave her piano behind. The seriousness of her piano studies led her parents to consider not leaving the USSR, but they finally decided to emigrate, due to the ethnic and political discrimination which Jews faced. Traveling first to Austria and then Italy, the family settled in the Bronx, New York, where Spektor graduated from the SAR Academy, a middle Jewish day school in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. She then attended high school for two years on a scholarship at the Frisch School, a yeshiva in Paramus, New Jersey, but, feeling out of place, eventually transferred to a secular public school, Fair Lawn High School, in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, where she finished the last two years of her high school education. Spektor has said that she has created 700 songs, but that she rarely writes any of them down. She has also stated that she never aspired to write songs herself, but songs seem to just flow to her. Spektor's songs are not usually autobiographical, but rather are based on scenarios and characters drawn from her imagination. Her songs show influences from folk, punk, rock, Jewish, Russian, hip hop, jazz, and classical music. Spektor's musical style has drawn many comparisons to fellow singer-pianists Tori Amos and Fiona Apple, as well as the vocal stylings of Björk. Spektor has said that she works hard to ensure that each of her songs has its own musical style, rather than trying to develop a distinctive style for her music as a whole. Spektor possesses a broad vocal range and uses the full extent of it. She also explores a variety of different and somewhat unorthodox vocal techniques, such as verses composed entirely of buzzing noises made with the lips and beatbox-style flourishes in the middle of ballads, and also makes use of such unusual musical techniques as using a drum stick to tap rhythms on the body of the piano or chair. Part of her style also results from the exaggeration of certain aspects of vocalization, most notably the glottal stop, which is prominent in the single "Fidelity". She also uses a strong New York accent on some words, which she has said is due to her love of New York and its culture. Her lyrics are equally eclectic, often taking the form of abstract narratives or first-person character studies, similar to short stories or vignettes put to song. Spektor usually sings in English, though she sometimes includes a few words or verses of Latin, Russian, French, and other languages in her songs. Some of Spektor's lyrics include literary allusions such as to F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway in "Poor Little Rich Boy", The Little Prince in "Baobabs", Virginia Woolf and Margaret Atwood in "Paris", Ezra Pound and William Shakespeare in "Pound of Flesh", Boris Pasternak in "Après Moi", Samson and Delilah in "Samson", and Oedipus the King in "Oedipus". She also used a line from Joni Mitchell's California in her song "The Devil Came to Bethlehem". Recurring themes and topics in Spektor's lyrics include love, death, religion (particularly Biblical and Jewish references), city life (particularly New York references), and certain key phrases have been known to recur in different songs by Spektor, such as references to gravediggers, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and the name "Mary Ann". Spektor's use of satire is evident in "Wasteside," which refers to the classic satirical novel by the Soviet authors Ilf and Petrov The Twelve Chairs, and describes the town in which people are born, get their hair cut, and then are sent to the cemetery.

A woman singer i first heard back in the late 80's & never got round to buying any of her Albums... Known as a Country folk singer i prefer to call her a woman with a Golden Voice! unobtrusive, easy listening & just beautiful, also very relaxing.
Mary Chapin Carpenter ( born February 21, 1958 ) is a American country/folk singer-songwriter and guitarist. Carpenter was born in Princeton, New Jersey to Chapin Carpenter Jr., a Life Magazine executive, and Mary Bowie Robertson. Carpenter lived in Japan from 1969 to 1971 before moving to Washington, D.C. She attended Princeton Day School, a private coeducational prep school, before graduating from The Taft School in 1976.
She spent several years singing in Washington, D.C. clubs before signing in the late 1980s with Columbia Records, who marketed her as a country singer. Carpenter's first album, 1987's Hometown Girl, did not produce any singles, although 1989's State of the Heart and 1990's Shooting Straight in the Dark each produced four Top 20 hits on the Billboard country singles charts.
In 1992, Carpenter released her most successful album to date, Come On Come On, which yielded seven charting country singles and was certified quadruple platinum in the U.S. for sales exceeding four million copies. She followed it with Stones in the Road (1994) and A Place in the World (1996), which both featured hit singles. In the 2000s, Carpenter's albums departed both thematically and musically from her early work, becoming less radio-friendly and more focused on societal and political issues. Her most recent album, The Calling, was released in March 2007.
Carpenter has won five Grammy Awards, and is the only artist to have won four consecutive Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, which she received from 1992 to 1995. As of 2005, she had sold more than 12 million records.
Carpenter has performed on television shows such as Late Night with David Letterman and Austin City Limits and tours frequently, returning to Washington almost every summer to perform at the popular outdoor venue Wolf Trap.

In this ever increasing demanding life Of pressure turmoil stress and strife How nice it is to have a friend On someone whom you can depend To share your joy sorrow or pain Who does so without personnel gain And isn’t it grand just to have a mate Who doesn’t mind waiting if your late A trusty mate or just your best friend Is someone priceless you cannot expend

I remember seeing the Album cover in my local record store "Rare Earth live in Concert" which really caught my eye back in the 70's & bought this double disc without knowing who or what was inside! Call it intuition.. but this is one of my ALL TIME favourites!! I know moods change as does musical preferences, but i rate this Album in my all time top 5. Rare Earth is an American rock band affiliated with Motown's Rare Earth record label (which was named after the band) who were particularly famous in the late-1960s and 1970s. Although not the first white band signed to Motown, Rare Earth was the first big hit-making act signed by Motown that consisted only of White American members, although a Chicano percussionist would later join the group. The group formed in 1961 as The Sunliners, and changed their name to "Rare Earth" in 1967. After recording an unsuccessful debut album "Dream/Answers" on the Verve label in 1968, they were signed to Motown in 1969. The band was the first act signed to a new Motown imprint that would be dedicated to white rock acts. The record company didn't have a name for the new label yet, and the band jokingly suggested Motown call the label "Rare Earth." To the band's surprise, Motown decided to do just that. The main personnel in the group included Gil Bridges (saxophone and vocals ), Gil was born in Detroit, Michigan. He first decided to take saxophone lessons at the age of ten. After a couple of years of lessons his instructor organized a band with some of his students including Gil. This is when Gil had his first taste of playing in a band. He also played saxophone in his high school marching band as well as the school orchestra and jazz band. While in high school he was asked to join a band called "The Sunliners". They played at high school dances, clubs, and eventually bars becoming one of Detroits most popular bands. In 1968 "The Sunliners" decided to change their name to something more hip. The new name became "Rare Earth". In 1969 Motown Record Corporation signed the group to a recording contract and also gave them their own label called "Rare Earth". Gil has played on every Rare Earth record ever recorded and still leads and performs with Rare Earth to this day. Pete Rivera a.k.a. Peter Hoorelbeke (lead vocals and drums), John Parrish a.k.a. John Persh (bass guitar, trombone and vocals), Rod Richards (born Rod Cox, guitar), Ray Monette ( guitar ), Edward "Eddie" Guzman (congas and assorted percussive instruments) and Kenny James (born Ken Folcik, keyboards). The personnel lineup changed considerably over the years, with three members of the group dying during the 1980s and 1990s and the only original member currently left in the group is Bridges. Rare Earth had a number of Top Ten hits in the 1970-1971 period, including covers of The Temptations' "(I Know) I'm Losing You" (which was used in the documentary video It's Time) and "Get Ready". The cover of "Get Ready" was their biggest hit, peaking at 4 on the US pop charts, a better performance than the original. Other songs include "I Just Want to Celebrate" and "Hey, Big Brother" They did not chart significantly after 1971, although they continued to record into the 1980s. Their 1973 album Ma, written and produced by Norman Whitfield, is considered their best overall work, and features their version of "Hum Along and Dance"
