Spring was good for the roses this year as well. This one tried to hide on the back of the bush, but I snuck up on it.

Lovely Lilies

My lilies were so beautiful this year!
Have you ever wanted to beat the ass off someone elses ?
I no longer have this lily in my bed. Two neighborhood , young ladies around the age of 12-14 judging by the looks of them, pulled the entire flower up, tossed the bulb in the street and kept the flower. One of the neighbors watched the whole thing and let me know. I have watched for them to walk back down this street all summer, haven't seen them yet. And seriously? For the sake of their own safety, I hope I don't. They pulled this plant up in May and I am still pissed about it. They destroyed a friend of mine's garden, literally uprooted an entire bed. And yes, they are old enough to know better. And they did this entirely for the vandalism aspect. My friend heard them laughing behind her house right after they pulled her bed up and she walked around the house to confront them and they ran away, laughing.
I promise you, if I catch them, I will take a stick to their asses, consequences be damned. At least if I am in jail, I will be able to obtain medical care.

Butterfly Weed/Pluresy Root. This plant grows wild all over the place here and in Kansas. Butterflies will allow you to get within inches of them when they are feeding from the flowers. I happened across a little patch of the stuff near Neosho Rapids and there were hundreds of butterflies climbing, flitting, dancing, and feeding from the flowers. (It wasn't too long after this photo was taken that Satan kicked the door to hell open and it got so hot that being outside was just too miserable.)

I like to stand beside a ripened wheat field on a windy day and watch the fickle wind blow across it, moving it to and fro. It is one of those things that gives me perspective about my life.

Just after we crossed into Utah on this trip, we found the proverbial oasis in the desert. A well-maintained welcome center with a host of beautiful desert blooms that hosted a whole eco-structure of small life forms. I was delighted to see all the different types of birds, lizards, and insects in the middle of all the sand, rocks, and scrub brush.

Kaibab Squirrel. These guys are only found along the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to bring one of these guys and one of the Black Squirrels that were in New York home with me.

I didn't get to get out as much as I would have liked to this year, the heat was just god-awful. But I managed to get a few hikes in, and the bees and wasps were everywhere.

There were three of these guys, playing around a drainage pipe just outside the city limits of Belton.

For the World Bird Sanctuary. If you are in the Saint Louis Area, this place and Lone Elk Park are worth the effort to see. There is no admittance fee for either place, the Bird Sanctuary operates on donations.
