Highly Recommended
Highly Recommended So the nights are drawing in, the damn virus is still circulating and ruining any thoughts of a normal life still so how to pass those winter nights? Anyone got any recommendations...a book, a tv series, a film, an album? It might be something well known that I never got round to...for example everyone raves about Game of Thrones...nope never seen a minute of it...I've never read a Charles Dickens book...nope...I've never listened to an opera...nope...never seen one of those superhero movies that are so huge...Avengers or whatever they are called...nope never. Maybe it's a little known gem that you have discovered and would share with us all? I'll kick things off with a subtitled Mexican tv series on Netflix, a thriller called Dark Desire...never been one for subtitled films or tv series but I'm hooked. |

I was reading a western horseman magazine once and saw a painting a gal done and it blowed me away, I would of bet a hundred dollars it was a photo. I told myself I wanted to paint but in reality I could barely draw a stick figure. I taught myself to draw, I still haven't got around to painting, and I am not fast, a portrait of just a face will take me about twenty hours. I get started drawing and 4-5 has passed before I know it. I get a good sense of accomplishment from it also. Anything worth doing is worth doing right

If you are able to switch off reality, and just enjoy some very funny books. I would recommend the Discworld Series written by Terry Pratchett [image] Please visit my Blog "Older but no Wiser"

Two video suggestions that are lighthearted but also compelling: "Mozart in the Jungle" - a contemporary dramedy set in a fictional New York City symphony (loosely modeled on NY Philharmonic). The heroine is pursuing a *chair* in the orchestra while living la vida loca in one of the world's great cities. Funny, well-scripted, superbly acted and a sweet look at the mania behind the scenes of a modern fine arts community. "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" - Also set in New York City, but in 1958. The heroine is a smart-aleck *Jewish American Princess* who impulsively (okay, alcohol was involved) becomes a stand-up comic. The real star is the team that designs the costumes....stylish and over-the-top! Both on Amazon Prime and guaranteed to exhort laughs at a time they are in short supply. Enjoy

A really good 'feel good' movie is 'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind', set in Africa a few years back!

I've never watched Game of Thrones either. In fact, I seem to miss out on all of the big series, when I try to watch them I never get into them, then can never seem to find the time. Outlander, Line of Duty etc, nah...... I did watch Nazi Hunters which was good apart from the ending. If you're into sci fi, I've been watching Altered Carbon, first series excellent, second series okay too. Comedy - ye'll do a lot worse than Still Game. And there's another one on the beeb at the moment, Mandy, I've heard it's okay too. Or you could always waste hours of your life on a.f.f.......
