I find myself in confusing territory again, probably the most confusing territory of a man’s life: being single.
A friend and I were chatting this morning and somehow we ended up on the subject of looks. We were talking about snacks, I made some comment about why I go to the gym, and I made a profound statement: no number of push-ups will grow a personality.
No amount of PT, aerobics, cycling, Pilates, or steroid abuse will have an affect on compatibility ‒ at least a positive affect.
"Beauty is vain”. It says so, right here, in the Bible.
However, from a distance, across a crowded room, it’s not easy to see compatibility. Without a word, how does one tell the character of another? How does one make a good first impression at range?

I had a remarkable weekend. So remarkable in fact that most of the remarks are best kept in my own personal journal. I could have stayed home, watching Star Trek reruns. Then a friend called. I was told, essentially, that I would get out of the house and I would mingle.
Now, a hole-in-the-wall bar isn’t my norm, but it is a notable venue for people-watching. People can do funny things; just add alcohol.
What was remarkable is the feedback I received from my friend. It seems I held my own ‒ and even more that just that.
Now, some four days later, the emotional high is wearing off. It seems life is retuning to normal. Even a little boredom is setting in. That is one reason we have books.

I had a really good summer visitation with my . I’d like to think my did, too. I spent more money on them than I’d planned, but it was a wise investment.
Amongst the ‘investments’ were season passes to a local water park. I got a discount if I bought four so I bought one for myself as well. But I didn’t get to go to the park with my . Work had a way of intruding, and I’m no workaholic. Fortunately, I’m blessed with a wonderful sister. She took her and mine to the park many times over the summer (that was the whole idea behind the season passes in the first place).
I wasn’t even going to pick up my pass. Then this past weekend my brother-in-law took his (my nephew) there. They were kind enough to invite me along. I was a third wheel, but we rode all the slides.
A couple of observations about water parks: first, no one looks as good in a bathing suit as he or she thinks. Airbrushing just doesn’t follow into the real world. Second, hormonal young guys who are trying to impress hormonal in a poke-a-dot bikini are awfully annoying. Surely I was never like that. To my knowledge I’ve never known a girl who even owned a poke-a-dot bikini.
So, now I have a season pass. But my are back at their mom’s. I wonder if a trip to the water park is good date. Perhaps it’s a little too presumptuous.

It’s assumed that them that visit this site are somewhat literate. It’s a pretty safe assumption; a person would have a hard time accessing this website without the use of some computerized device, and it follows that a person would find it difficult using such a device without some basic familiarity with the written word.
This doesn’t seem to bear out in practice. If you’re curious about me, read. Read my profile. I’ve even pinned a copy of it to the top of this blog; you can peruse it at your leisure.

Home again. After six great weeks with my I'm a bachelor again. I took them back to their mom's yesterday -- a 500 mile, nine-plus hour drive one way. I put over a thousand miles on my SUV and spent an atrocious amount of money in gas during the marathon drive. I've been doing this for the past four years, though, so I'm used to it. It's getting downright boring.
One of the first things I did when I got home this afternoon was to strip. With my here in my cozy cottage privacy was at a premium. I hadn't been able to be nekid for the duration, with the exception of the weekend their mom came for a visit. I'm so looking forward to getting in bed, in clean sheets against my bare (if not fury) skin.

I love my . I'm glad I get to spend time with them. My are cool.
I say that so there's no misunderstanding.
In two weeks I'll drive them back to their mom's. In two weeks I'll make the metamorphisms again, from single dad to bachelor. Almost like a caterpillar to a butterfly, but not nearly as graceful. And I'll be on my own again.
I'll be on my own in more ways than one. I am without a significant other. Our relationship couldn't handle the stresses between my single fatherhood and the demands on her life.
I don't like this. It's bad enough trying to make new friends, hoping for more, but I have two more weeks to go.
